San Pedro Launches Anti-Harassment Initiative

In San Pedro, the Social Violence Prevention Directorate has trained employees from 10 establishments as part of the implementation of a protocol to act in cases of harassment. The aim is for women to feel safe when reporting incidents, and emergency hotline numbers have been disseminated.

The Executive Secretary of the municipality, Juan Pablo Castuera, highlighted the importance of working together with authorities to carry out this training. The Director of Violence Prevention, Dulce Morales, stated that the goal is to promote a culture of reporting to eradicate harassment in businesses.

Morales mentioned that many times people do not report due to fear or other reasons, but it is crucial to report these situations to receive guidance and support. Owners and employees of nightclubs, bars, and restaurants, as well as citizens of San Pedro, will receive training to prevent and address harassment against women, and emergency hotline numbers will be activated.

The "San Pedro Free of Harassment" program seeks to ensure that women who are victims or witnesses of harassment feel safe contacting established emergency numbers. According to the Secretary of Security, José Luis David Kuri, direct prevention is essential to guarantee the safety of women in the city.

Zero tolerance for acts against women is promoted in San Pedro, with the objective of creating a safe environment for all. The action protocol also includes psychological support for those who need it.

In early January, a group of friends was harassed by a man in a trendy bar in San Pedro. In response to this situation, one of the young women decided to record the aggressor with her cell phone to document the harassment and take action. The implementation of these protocols aims to empower victims and prevent such behaviors in the community.
